This series arose from a workshop in which I participated in the summer of 1998. With ten art students in an abandoned mining area around the mountain village of Monte Vecchio, Sardinia.

Around Monte Vecchio there has been large-scale mining in the past. The area seemed deserted from one day to another. Tools were still there, the administration was neatly in drawers. This ghost town of rusty mine carts was our working area. During this workshop, which lasted six weeks, we have made a lot of art on location, and we were supposed to use materials that were available at the site.

I also have a large photo archive of the area, which is mapped in full detail. In the period after this workshop, the archive helped me make these paintings.

Number of works in the series: 11
